This opening sequence and trailer for Germany's Next Top Model with Heidi Klum was directed by Rankin with DP Jaron Pressant. We thought just the video would not be enough for one day, so we did stills of Heidi for the marketing of the show, as well as singles for each of 17 girls by Rankin in a separate set on this stage.
My role here was to manage talent and liaise three production units in this stage, interfacing with all crew to ensure we would capture video, celebrity marketing stills, and model shots in one day.
Styling: Maryam Makapour
H + M : Hanna Huenlich
Set Design: Nathan Matheny/Sketchpaper Design
This production within a production for Germany's Next Top Model was directed by Jonas Akerlund in Los Angeles. For the German reality show, we produce a short video clip for each of Heidi's girls, based on the same script. The girls are not experienced actors, but they got some help this time from Peter Stormare, notorious bad cop.
I managed pre-production and all talent, coordinated on set, briefed Akerlund, and brought together two different video crews to make 13 clips like these possible in just one day of production with second unit filming for the broadcast segment of the show with Heidi Klum.

This book project, supported by The Prince's Trust, will encapsulate the work of stylist David Thomas. With a foreword written by HRH The Prince of Wales and interviews conducted by Boy George, with rich photography showing the beginnings of celebrity styling from the 80s through David's work today. We will create portraits of select celebrities who have been styled by David Thomas over the last three decades, in tribute to The Prince's Trust, which was instrumental in forging David's early career. Years in the making, I am honored to have the privilege to produce this work, which illuminates the icons who where the first to employ fashion stylists as we know them today. David Thomas was a breakthrough then, and this book tells the story of what he is still doing today.
This still and video production for Germany's Next Top Model was shot and directed by Kristian Schuller on location in California with Heidi Klum. Kristian and I developed the look and feel together, working closely with our art department, stunt, and special effects teams. All wardrobe is styled by Peggy Schuller. The stormy theme was inspired by the four seasons, where we made it rain, snow and blow over two days, in a vast mine quarry.

This production for Aveda, shot by Kristian Schuller, started as a request for locations in California which would speak to the concept of 'Grand Nature'. After submitting 20 diverse locations, from sea to forest to desert, the client asked me to take over the production and run it, committing to going into the wilderness in a remote area near the Sequoia National Park. Staying very true to the concept, we did the shoot over four days in the wild, with no amenities, no cell phone coverage, and a plethora of wildlife surrounding us. It was awesome.

This set gives an overview of some favorite productions I've done on several early seasons for Germany's Next Top Model with Heidi Klum. Heidi Klum places high importance on working with a changing set of absolutely top photographers from the bastions of fashion photography. Over five seasons as lead photography producer on this show, I have had the pleasure of working with greats like Rankin, Ellen von Unwerth, Christian Anwander, Warwick Saint, Brian Bowen Smith, Derek Kettela, Enrique Badulescu, Robert Erdmann, Ben Watts, Kenneth Cappello, Marc Baptiste, Michel Comte, Russell James, Kristian Schuller, Lysa Cooper (stylist), Walter Barnett (stylist) Nabil Elderkin (film), Jonas Akerlund (film), Thomas Job (film) and others.
Working on this set for North 6 was a particular pleasure for me, as I had last seen director Fabien Baron back in the Paris days when I had just started out as a designer. We produced this commercial on a single day, with beautiful Vanessa Axente, the new face of Calvin Klein.

As director of photography at German Wired magazine, I managed all photo productions including creative briefs to talent, art buying, budgets, syndication, international bookings and translations, as well as working closely with the editor in chief to determine content for the German market.
German Vogue brought me on board to produce this shoot with Donna Langley, Chairman of Universal Pictures. Photography by Robert Erdmann.
I worked closely with director Robert Erdmann to develop the treatments, moods and script for three fashion films in this campaign. Shot over four days on location in Australia, Robert accomplished the stills and video concurrently.
Styling by team Kevin Murphy.

As director of photography launching the German version of Wired magazine, I managed all photo productions including creative briefs to talent, all art buying for illustration and graphics, budgets, syndication, international bookings and translations, as well as working closely with the editor in chief to determine strategic content for the German market, with am amazing team of editors and creatives.
This project took me back to my roots in many ways, as I worked closely with luminaries at the MIT Media Lab in the early 90s, contributors to US Wired, before the title was acquired by Condé Nast.
I started off the tenth season of Heidi Klum's German Top Model show with the broadcaster's cross medial campaign production. Cakes, cakes, cakes...more to come from season 10 soon!
During the 14 years I spent in Munich Germany, Condé Nast was one of my principal clients. My main areas of focus for Condé were photo direction, production, editing, syndication and art buying for publications like Glamour, GQ, Myself, and Wired.
I had a blast in the studio managing productions like these for German GQ magazine. For the bar guide, I did all the cocktails and prop styling as well as the production itself. For the Christmas gift guide, I custom built the white boxes to best fit each gift product.
Fashion productions for GQ magazine were often 6 at a time, so they were fast and fun. Here, a few samples.
This production within a production for Germany's Next Top Model was directed by Nabil Elderkin in Los Angeles. Working with Nabil on creative, we decided to make one clip, featuring each of Heidi's girls in succession of one action, where Heidi starts by throwing the molotov cocktail out into the studio space.
I managed pre-production and all talent, coordinated on set, briefed Nabil, and brought together two different video crews to make this clip possible in just one day of production with second unit filming for the broadcast segment of the show with Heidi Klum.

As director of photography at German Wired magazine, I managed all photo productions including creative briefs to talent, art buying, budgets, syndication, international bookings and translations, as well as working closely with the editor in chief to determine content for the German market.
Additionally, I did some illustration work for the magazine, which can be seen here.
This is the story of Heidi Klum in Capetown, in one of many productions with Kristian Schuller. As usual, shoots like this take on some epic proportions, but the results are always worth it. For this one, I was new at Pro7, brought in at the last minute to 'fix' 'the production which needed optimization and fixing fast. I slashed costs in half, producing it from Munich, Germany.

My work at Condé Nast in Munich included producing special supplements like the watch issues. For productions like these, I managed the productions, creating and sourcing the props we used.
Here, a few editorials from German GQ magazine. I produced Vinzenz Kiefer and the Formula 1 Story, and syndicated the Daria and Andres story, negotiating rights and fees. These samples represent typical daily work in the photography department at the magazine.
When I get time, I will add to this gallery. These images are:
Linda Evangelista in Venice ca. 1986, my daughter in our home at Rocky Point 2014, a circus behind the Zocalo in Mexico city ca. 1987.
My network of production professionals and knowledge of unique locations spans the US, Europe, and beyond. If you are looking for more than standard location pulls, contact me and we'll talk.
My role for this Red Bull production, which won the ANIMAGO 3D animated short first award, was to creative direct, manage and produce the work.
